If she's genuinely shy you'd have to slowly get her to open up. You also have to consider other factors like, how open minded is she? If shes a stubborn type there is little to no use.
It also depends on how much you like her. I generally refrain from trying to change anyone. I assume the way I met you is the way you'll remain. Yes, people do change, but it's not my responsibility to change anyone especially since change only happened when the person wants to change. Does she want to change? And if not are you willing to stifle yourself for her? If not maybe let her go.
For the future I recommend making a list of qualities you prefer in a women, and looking for these qualities while dating. This will prevent situations like these where you're emotionally invested for a year and now have to think of whether or not you guys will even work.

That tends to be quite tricky.

This post had to be taken down because it appears to be focused on a specific situation or person. While Field Reports deal with specific situations and people, remember that the focus is different:
No worries though! Though the thread has been taken down, any conversations you have started here can still continue, and if you want to PM a mod to get their opinion on this thread, feel free to do so and they will still be able to weigh in.
For next time, remember that posts about a specific situational advice with a specific person are fine as field should be directed to Ask Seddit (/r/askseddit), not to be confused with Ask Reddit.
