Let's say you're in one of the very essential services that have managed to keep our country going. Fast-food, supermarket, UPS, etc.. and someone who's eye you catch decides he wants to thank you. It's a bit of a different reaction for individual acts of kindness, but maybe break it down further.
1) Being applauded
2) Being given flowers with a card, thanking you for all the hard work you're doing in a non-patronizing way.
3) Being given money less than 300$
4) Being given gifts exceeding 300$
(In these troubling times where I'm sure lots of people would love to be home relaxing and collecting some form of government assistance, these people can't. In a way, the people who stand financially at the top of functioning society don't really mean much if the trash isn't picked up, or if the food doesn't get delivered and processed.)
Let's also perhaps add that this person who's been thanking you is a bit of a secret admirer of your's and might possibly be using letters, flowers, money, and/or gifts to substitute the dates you cant go on. The dresses he can't buy you. The dinners he can't take you to. The jewelry he can't spoil you with. Let's say the stars align, and he shows that his intentions are only to thank you and support you, financially, knowing full well that now is not the time to be thinking about dating, and respects the CDC's guidelines on social distancing. But still will not allow his interest in you to come second to that, and it shows.
The timeless question;
I S - I T - F L A T T E R I N G ? ?
O R - J U S T - P L A I N - W E I R D ? ?
