Not very applicable for current times but I have seen it work back when we could interact in person.
If you and a girl are hitting it off, maybe a friendly convo on the bus/in a lecture/ect and you want to get to talk to her again, write down your number and give it to her. “I enjoyed talking to you, I’d like to get to know you better. Here is my number”
This is good for 2 reasons: 1. The ball is in her court. If you receive a text later you know she is at least somewhat interested and you aren’t bothering her. 2. It is way less scary for her. She isn’t exposing herself to being harassed by giving out her number. And she won’t fee she has to give it out out of politeness and fear of strangers.
Even though it has the same outcome, it is way less threatening in my experience. You are offering your safety/anonymity first instead of asking her to give up hers. I gave this advice to some of my guy friends and it has worked way better for them than asking girls for their numbers.
