I think this is a good example of how society treats male victims, cause by people's gynocentric bias. Here the news outlet and even the mother ignore the victim--the son, and make is all about the mother--a woman. There were some threats against her, but her son was specifically targeted.

Though there is no mention of feminists here, feminists capitalize on this pre-existing bias to justify discrimination against men with respect to domestic violence against men, and sexual assault against men--discrimination against awareness raising for men and discrimination against men for government funded service delivery.

I’m sure having your son be threatened and treated horribly can’t be good for a mother. Also as a mother you should be able to understand he’s the one getting threats and treated horribly, not you!

I could easily see this as a mother trying to protect their son from a media circus. I find it likely that a homosexual boy/young man who's already getting harassed wouldn't want the attention. It's fair to say that the media here downplays the son as the victim, which could have been used as awareness around boys and men as targets, but I don't think we have enough information to make assumptions about the womans care for her son. I tried to search for more information but I couldn't find more info than what's in the clip.
