I've been told over and over as a kid by associates of my dad, "don't ever get married". I never understood why. I know why now. Men get the shit end of the stick, and true love is a female invention, but not a female experience.
many of my fellow engineers have arrived at the same conclusion independently. a culture is doomed to die when successful men make a rational decision to opt out.

If that approach ends up working, more power to you. I would be inclined to build rapport first, a genderless requirement.
