Been a Chef working for ten years in the private sector for UHNW clients (in UK). This has enabled me to save 100k in total. That is everything.
I can't do it anymore. I'm tired of being tired. I'm tired of working 6 day weeks, I'm tired of smelling like fucking onions and being too exhausted after 13 hour days to go to the gym.
This is not some rant about me feeling sorry for myself, I can and will change. But I need some career advice. I want to start earning money as soon as possible in an office based environment, and am willing to go back to Uni to study. I am looking at Software Engineering as I have been learning the basics of coding, (which I found to be enjoyable) but don't want to haemorrhage all my savings chasing some pipe dream.
But how do I get into Uni? I went to a college the other day to enrol on a course that would allow me access to Uni, however I seemed to be the only English one there and certainly the only person there over 20, so I thought in the long run, after a year it may be a waste of time.
I'm the type of guy that can throw himself into something obsessively, learn quickly and thrive, but dragging the learning process out over 4 years (with college) is tbh, something that is putting me off, (especially being out of earnings for 4 years.)
Does anyone have any advice? I was about to buy a house with mine and my gf's savings, (mortgage free,) out in the country somewhere, but obviously she's done a runner off with some rich guy, so that's now changed everything. (Swallowing the red pill now, I know my mistakes with that one bla bla.)
I should also mention that I am running a small business on the side, which is starting to gain some interest, however too early to say if it will be (massively) profitable yet.
