Friendly reminder that a lot of countries have higher pension ages for men - even if men on average living comparatively less

Even in countries which have equal retirement age, it's very likely men still retire later than women.

In the United States men retire 2 years later on average than women do in the United States, this is despite them on average living 5 years less than woman.

Not to mention, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics back in 2021, men on average work longer hours. Men were nearly twice as likely to work 41 hours per week or more. Men were 2.3 times more likely to work 60+ hours per week. Women were twice as likely as men to work shorter weeks. So it's not just about working for more years but also the work put in.

This is why I also find the idea about "red-shirting" boys so silly, not only would it not make any difference in my opinion, it will both put men further back in life especially consider they tend to live shorter lives.

Edit: I just realied in some countries women's retirement age is around 5 years less than men's!

Women live longer. Even with that, for example, in Canada the Canada Pension plan gives 'equal benefits'. This means that men disproportionately subsidize women's longer retirement. In addition, in Canada, parental leave (taken mostly by women), is 'counted as working'. Which means men also subsidize women's pension when women do not work.

These facts are carefully hidden in the way they are portrayed to the public.
