This is a horrifying read, and it all started with a botched circumcision for a phimosis case. The doc used cauterization which ended up burning the patient's penis beyond repair.

At the time, vaginoplasty was much more advanced than phalloplasty. Both procedures were usually done on patients with severe defects or accidents. This is yet another counterexample against a pervasive "medical misogyny"

This led to John Money raising the patient as a woman and pressuring the parents to give the patient SRS, which consisted of orichetomy and vaginoplasty. Money's colleagues reported that he was "mortified" by the case, and the case led to the decline of SRS for XY infants.

If circumcision is expanded to all male births, we will be seeing more of these cases by the law of large numbers. And if it is abolished, then we still shall never forget the millions of patients who suffered at the hands of medical mutilators.
