I identify with feminism and I have recently been exploring this subreddit, engaging in conversations and trying to understand the overall premise of 'Mens Rights' as it is painted in quite a negative light and I like to do my own research. From what I have seen, many men in this subreddit advocate for male victims of domestic abuse to be better recognised and supported, male loneliness, the issues surrounding male circumcision etc. which are all important issues that do need to be addressed.
But, isn't this what feminists have been advocating for? I know, many people in this subreddit shut down when they hear the word 'feminist', but if you read feminist literature and listen to academics talk about feminism and the goals of feminism, they talk about dismantling the patriarchy. This involves challenging gender roles and stereotypes as a whole, including the stereotype that men cannot be victims and that men are the aggressors. The assumption that men are not victims is rooted in patriarchal ideas of gender roles, dismantling this would mean recognising all forms of abuse and victims of abuse.
The goal of dismantling the patriarchy isn't to flip the roles and put women in charge, the goal is for neither gender to hold power over the other which seems to be the goal for many people in this subreddit as well?
Im just wondering what members of this subreddit think about this, while exploring the different topics here, I couldn't help but make the connection. I'm hoping for honest and open conversations so please don't respond with hostility
