We spent so many passing years,
balancing love against our fears.
I thought you might have been the one,
yet doubted when each day was done.
To guard my heart from breaking too,
I built strong walls to hide from you.
A shell I shaped through hurt and flame,
convinced that love and pain were the same.
But time can wear down stone and fire,
and slowly cool the strongest desire.
The warmth we held began to fade,
like fragile light and dying shade.
And all the walls I made so well
collapsed beside that empty shell.
Because no heart, despite its art,
can stay untouched when worlds fall apart.
