Of course it's a power play. Being nice takes effort. It's not hard, but it takes effort. Picture the last time you were talking to someone you respect, but the topic sucked and you just wanted it to end. It would be so much easier to just say, "Dude, this is the most boring fucking thing I've ever done, can we wrap this up?" You wouldn't do it. You smile, nod, and when the time is right you get going.

Someone who isn't respectful isn't going to have those filters. They're going to be a dick and see if you stand up for yourself or not, and if you do, then they might adjust their tone. But if they don't have to they're going to keep shitting on you and using you. When you or someone else (hopefully you) finally stands up to it, they'll try to make excuses like, "bad day" "stress" "etc." (See: Hamster / Hamstering) because they don't want everyone to know they're really cunts by nature. It's not good strategy for personal gain, unless the person your gaining from is a complete pussy.
