This one popped up in my Facebook feed today. I was going to argue, but people are so on edge with this Elliot Rodger shit, I decided not to. Most of the comic is inoffensive, but I don't see how feminists are still claiming that they are taught not to express their sexuality. Are they talking about high school dress codes maybe? I know I've seen performances of The Vagina Monologues advertised at several colleges, and college level courses in human sexuality and women's studies can hardly be accused of "slut shaming".

The comic also claims that men are taught to proudly express their sexuality. I'm sure that must come as a surprise to male college students, in today's guilty-until-found-innocent climate of "all men are potential rapists".

One thing that this comic implies, that I see all the time in feminist/gender discussions, is that someone is telling people how to behave.

Where are these rules? Are they written down somewhere? Who enforces them? It's BS if you ask me.

It all comes down to biology. Men learn to act the way they act because they're rewarded for it. Or, it comes naturally. Or a bit of both. If they're rewarded for behavior it's because of biology again.

So these rules that women/feminists think are so random are hard coded in our DNA.

Otherwise, where do the rules come from? Chance? The gods?

I have to think

resource scarcity + biology = culture

So in a sense parts of culture are innate if not all of culture.

Where does culture come from if not these two factors?

I'm not saying there is and I think I agree with you.

I don't think biology needs to change for culture to change but I still think all culture is biologically determined to some extent. I don't think it's possible to argue otherwise unless you come up with a genesis of culture that's non-biological. If you say it's all resource scarcity, well, that doesn't seem right to me.

Here's an interesting paper I found while thinking of this discussion (haven't read it all yet):

Lately I've been thinking that many disagreements that people have over politics and society can be reduced to that basic philosophical difference: do people act the way they do out of predetermined biology, or are human beings a blank slate who develop attitudes and behavior based on their cultural environment? I believe it's a combination of both, but I seem to give more credit to predetermined biology than most people I meet.

Lol. I love that jpg, but sadly this one allusion doesn't really make up for your OP. Sorry dude, try again next time.
