Did anyone see the second episode of 24 last night? Just another one of those examples of how seeing the world after TRP highlights many things (especially in our media) which never would have registered on you as being messed up before.
In one particular scene, Jack Bauer (superspy badass) is following a suspect through the London tube (subway) system. The suspect is a young woman, slightly attractive (certainly bangable) and she knows that Jack is merely waiting for her to leave the train so that he can apprehend her out of the public eye (Jack can't make an outright arrest as he has no "official" standing).
The girl is shown looking at Jack as she surreptitiously draws a small knife across her thigh drawing blood. As she gets up to leave (and Jack gets up to leave through another door) she smears some of the blood on her cheek and starts with some heaving sobs. She leaves the train and immediately turns and points at Jack (who is moving to intercept her) and shrieks "Help me somebody he's trying to kill me!" through her blood and tears.
Predictably, two burly men in the crowd get between Jack and the girl (as she begins to run away) and try to confront him... Jack has no time for this and drops the first one before the second even realizes what's happening. The second is destroyed quickly as well... Likely a trip to the emergency room for each (if this were real), but at least they'll get laid by that girl... oh, wait... well at least their chivalry will be lauded by all of the attractive young women who witnessed them getting the sh!t kicked out of them... right??
...so as i'm watching, the first thought that strikes me is how natural it seemed that a woman attempted to use BP White-Knights for her own proxy-violence. The second thought was that among the millions watching this, very few would recognize how great an example of female privilege and power this was. Nope... no true-to-life-example of social imbalance here... move along.
But at least the White-Knights got wrecked. Am I hoping for too much that this lesson may have been absorbed (even subliminally)by a few of our plugged-in brethren?
TL;DR evil-spy-girl gets 2 White-Knights to fight her battle and they get twatted for their trouble with no thanks or reward. Hollywood got it right, and it likely still wouldn't penetrate a BP mindset.
