Ok so here goes…

I’ve been seeing a guy for about 2.5 years.

He has been consistent with many (imo) HV traits: he’s generous with his time, energy and money with me, he does thoughtful gestures often, tells me I’m beautiful often, shares his keys, laptop, phone and finances with me, he’s loving, and wants to get married and move-in together. I feel like he's made my life easier in this regard.

Basically my problem is if I bring up one particular subject, he either shuts down or stonewalls. If I drop the subject, everything is all good again. The subject is regarding the time right before and right when we met. Like basically he was hanging with some girls, he got an emo-like tattoo, was planning a trip with some of them, etc. When he got serious with me, he cut them all out of his life, canceled the trip, deleted everything. I really only have parts and pieces. When I started getting more serious, I asked him about this stuff. I remember him being very resistant and defensive, and it caused fights, and he did disclose some information (mentioned above), but it was hard to even get to that point. At the time I was working two jobs and living in a more stressful environment, so for mental health reasons I stopped bringing it up to him for awhile.

I don’t believe anything nefarious is going on while we have been dating. I’ve been bringing this back up again because it just really, really bothers me and I feel there are all these unanswered questions, and the fact he won’t really talk with me about it makes it bother me even more. I think it's making me feel insecure in the relationship.

To be noted: Due to a previous, toxic relationship with a LVM who cheated on and lied to me soo much, which took me years to build myself back up again, I am weary (maybe triggered) of any lack of transparency.

My questions are: Am I being unreasonable to want to know about the time right before and right when he met me? What do I do? Any general insights on this is appreciated.
