My LTR dropped her toxic friends when she realised they were holding her back from succeeding in her own goals.

You have to realise you cant get rid of them unless she sees them as toxic, your opinion doesnt matter. Be ready with a good story about friends you've had to let go in the past, and throw it out there when she starts bitching about them.

Be a better example. Point out that she should consider the source of any advice given, and if it's conducive to long-term health and happiness.

Her friends shouldnt be your concern to begin with, they should be hers. If she is not concerned with their behaviour it inherently means she doesn't see anything wrong with it and this is a bad sign and you should be reconsidering your commitment. If she does see issues then you as her captain should be guiding her to the correct solution.
