(posting here, crosspost from /r/relationship_advice, figured it was more appropriate here?)
This is a burner account and I'm embarrassed to post from my main account.
I've always been a shy guy growing up, and this had me find difficulties with approaching girls. 6 years ago I started liking this girl in grad school. I approached this girl and told her that I did like her, this was a bit step for me. She said she had feelings for me as well, I felt good about this, we did make out a few times and had some fun, but never had sex. She always kept putting it off, this went on for a while, in fact during all this time (5-6 years), I always figured that I don't need to "move on" and would eventually work things out with this girl. That did not happen.
Late last year, about around this time, I finally "broke up" with her. I felt bad about this, but I had to move on. Looking back, I realize now that I was used and/or taken advantage of, she went to dinners with, I even drove her around places, spent a lot of time with her and her friends.
In the last year, I have improved my mental state, I got in shape and found a group of friends who are great. I found a few hobbies that interest me, this makes me feel good. She calls me never now and then, I don't answer her calls anymore, does that sound reasonable?
The rub is that now I'm 28, I'm still a virgin, and my friends are getting married! I feel embarrassed about this. Should I be? What should I do next?
tl;dr 28M, wasted many years trying to "date" a girl, still a virgin, improved my life in a year, what next?
there doesn't seem to be anything here
