For the last few years, I had been training intensely to perform in college playing my sport. I was slated to join my school's D1 program. After competing and training six hours a day this summer, in mid-August, right before school started, I suffered a heart problem and couldn't train or compete for 8 months. I am slated to be fully cleared next month and am already cleared to start playing again. I let the coach know throughout the process. He led me on, saying I would definitely be able to join the team when I was healthy. Finally, I let him know I was ready to play, and he said that he isn't taking me because the team is capped and he recruited 4 new players. Mind you, there are guys on the team I can beat. I literally beat one of the recruits in a match 3 days before I got injured this summer, but the coach won't even let me try out or show up to a "closed" practice.

I'm trying to figure out what is the best thing for me to do in this situation. I don't drink or party, so joining a frat isn't appealing (it's also not a fratty school). The other activities I do well (but not as well as my sport) are singing and chess. I joined an a capella group to pass the time during my injury and quickly quit. It was the gayest thing I've ever experienced Obviously, chess isn't really an option in college...

At my school, the athletes only really date athletes. At the moment, I don't feel like I belong to any one group. My identity is in flux. My grades have been great (3.9 GPA) and the school is among the best in the US. So academically I am fine, but everything else feels kind of shitty. I don't have a group of bros. I have friends, but most people at school are feminist snowflakes. For now, I'm just going to finish the semester. I'm not sure what to do for my next semester though.

I have kept on lifting light as my doctor has allowed, and obviously, I will start lifting heavy again when my doctor clears me next month. Still, without competition, my life feels bland. I'm thinking that maybe I can audition for some shows in the theatre department. Is there anything else you experienced guys would recommend for reorienting my life in college next semester and giving myself a mission?
