This was originally a reply to another thread but by the time I was done writing it was so big I decided it deserved it's own thread. This wasn't proof-read but it's getting late and I'm on a tablet atlm, I'll edit it tomorrow morning.
Let me tell you my story.
So growing up, my dad had a restaurant, and we apparently made a lot of money. I had no idea though, as my mother never bought me shit and my clothes all came from very cheap stores (I'll just add that my mom had 3 huge wardrobes full of designer clothes she would never wear, I had no idea she did of course) I always thought we were on the poor side, then one day my dad comes home with a brand new playstation, 2 controllers and a handfull of games. I was amazed, my first reaction was to ask how we could afford this, he simply smiled and said "Why do you think I work this much?". Oh he sure worked, a lot, I only saw him once a week and by then he was usually too tired to do anything with me. I didn't really know him that well tbh, but he bought us my brother and I a lot of gifts to compensate for his lack of presence.
As I grew older I started to see through my mother's bullshit (don't get the wrong idea, I've always loved my mother and she loves both my brother and I, I just don't respect her), why did my brother and I have to wear cheap, plain clothes while both my parents wore highly fashionable, expensive clothing? I kept asking myself these questions and one day, as my mother gave me €20 to go buy new clothes I called her out on it. She said we had to pay a lot in taxes and stuff, "bullshit" I thought to myself while walking out. I went all the way to my dad's restaurant and asked him if I could have some money for new clothes, he grabbed his wallet, took €4-fucking-hundred out, handed it over to me and said "treat yourself". Needless to say, both my younger brother and I never wore cheap, plain clothing ever again after that.
Fast forward a few years, shit is hitting the fan, the global recession of 2009 hit us very hard, there were almost no tourists anymore and 2 years later my dad went bankrupt. Anyway this post was supposed to be about my stepfather so let's cut to the chase. 2 months before all my dad's hard work went down the drain my mother came home with a man I didn't know, she introduced him as "a childhood friend she reconnected with not long ago" and in the back of my mind I couldn't help but think "this dude is shagging my mom". Turns out he was, when my dad's business failed she almost immediately ask for a divorce and moved in with my soon-to-be step-father, taking my brother with her. I still had 2 years of high school left so I followed my mother even though I despised her at the time, I had to, my father had so many debts because of his restaurant he couldn't even afford to have his own place and had to move in with his parents.
Anyway six months later my mother dumps my step-father because "I feel like you put too much money into us"(translation:you don't make enough for me to live like the stay-at-home princess I used to be) and goes back to my father, who takes her back. Personally I think that after having lost everything in his life he was just looking for that old sense of comfort he had (but that may just be my male hamster trying to justify for my dad's beta move of taking her back). They get a place and everything and after just a month she leaves my dad, again (I think it may be because he didn't have any money, but I'm not sure /s)
Now I'm a hs graduate, but don't I don't feel like going to college just yet so I got myself a job and moved out of my mother's home (she's back with my step-father, obviously), asked my dad if he wanted to move in with me (he still had to live with his parents) and am currently saving up to start my own business. I stumbled upon this sub on a drunk night after wondering why my mother had been such a bitch(read:woman) to my dad and the pill had no problem going in. I mean, my mother basically made me go through all the stages in the few years it took her to destroy my father.
So I guess the moral here is that unicorns don't exist(but that's common knowledge around here). Both my parents have always been considered very attractive and have always had pretty high SMV, they were eachother's first time, my mom never rode the carousel and I doubt she'd want to (she still could, when I'm out with her there will regularly be guys in their 20s hitting on her. She still looks fairly young) and even though she said she loved my father, as soon as his SMV got to it's lowest point she left.
If you're wondering how my father's doing, he's back on his feet. He recently got a promotion which allowed us to get a bigger place. He's still paying off his debts but he keeps telling me he can't wait to have finished paying em off so that he can start a new business. He has a few plates and is completely disgusted at the idea of having an LTR.
