I would assume women around there take to men like there daddies right? maybe if they had an intellectual model for a dad they'd be attracted to intellectual models otherwise the men she knows are probably more larry the cable guy-esque and therefore the man that she would be looking for would resemble that too .

It really is like living in a bizarro world where every self-improvement tip actually makes you less attractive to the locals.

I think that the poster below nailed part of it in that they are looking for their father......the other is the social convention, in that since one hot girl has a billy bob with his pickup truck and fart joke conversation model, every girl wants a slightly more billy bob with more outrageous fart jokes.
