I'm a 19 year old guy, and recently started attending college. On the first day of class, while evaluating everyone, there was this one girl who really stood out to me. Our conversations were pretty fun and outgoing, and I really was fond of this girl.
Yet, at some point I just assumed she was a giggling party-girl. There were really not many reasons to assume this in hindsight, but I did for some reason. I like to go to parties occasionally, but really pity people whose lives are based upon that, so having that thought in my mind was a big turn-off for me, and I really didn't think about her that much anymore. We'll call her K from now on.
Now yesterday our class went out to drink something at a bar after going to a law-firm. After some drinks her friend was clearly in to me, but I wasn't really interested in her, so just continued talking with other people, including K.
Now, at one point, while we are talking, this friend of hers joins the conversation and makes it clear (altough subtle) that she has a boyfriend. Pretty sure this was not because I was overly touchy with K, but because she was jealous. Turns out K and her boyfriend had some difficulties at that exact moment. Because I didn't want my evening to be ruined by girl problems, I quickly just started chatting up with others again.
Now, this is where it gets interesting. So I'm going out for a smoke with another guy and she joins us. At this moment I found out that, altough she is 20, has never even tried a cigarette or any other type of drugs. What also struck me is that she didn't even seemed to have consumed any alchohol at this point, even though we had been drinking quite a lot in a short period of time. By this I mean that she seemed to be clear in the head, and not horny and fucked up like 95% of the people seem to get when they have drunk. I really liked that about her, because I had never met a girl who was like that when she had been drinking.
At one point this other guy left, and we were just sitting there for a while. Eventually I brought up that she seemed to be having some trouble with her boyfriend and she told me that she had broken up with him before, to which I replied that maybe it was for a reason, to which she softly agreed.
So now, the important question is: what should I do? I made a conscious decision that evening to just talk and not get overly flirty, altough I did touch her occasionally when it was appropiate. I have had some decently bad experiences with pursuing a girl with a boyfriend in the past, but the difference is that that relationship was healthy, and this one seems to be not.
So, should I pursue this girl, wait or get over with it altogether? The trouble with waiting would be that it would be hard to know when she has broken up with him, because I'm not interested at all in becoming ''just friends'' with her (I also made it clear that boys and girls can't be friends on that evening).
By the way: with waiting I don't mean that I won't be pursuing other girls in the meantime, but that I will have her in my mind when it comes to relationship material.
