Old habits die hard...

I recently went on a first date with a chick that has a lot going for her. Old fashion, young, good family, cooks, really puts a lot of effort into appearance, and is in school.

Anyways, my rule of thumb has always been, a man should pay more often than not, and certainly at least on the first date. But I'm more than willing to let a girl pay for later dates and do expect it. Maybe like a 60-40, 70-30ish split.

Bill comes, we only had drinks nothing huge, and she offers to pitch in (made me happy that she even offered). I played it cool and said "no, this one's on me". She resisted a bit and said she hates when guys do this in a playful sort of way. She thanked me again for the drinks before we went home.

Anyways, my question is, what's the better rule of thumb move here? Does it look better to pay, or should you take the offer and split the bill? With plates that I just want to fuck, I'd gladly split the bill, but LTR calibre girls I actually try to be a bit chivalrous. I feel like I'm shooting myself in the foot, but I'm not sure.
