A lot has been written on Hypergamy, Alphas, Betas, and Omegas. I want to tie this all together with two primary examples. The first example is the documentary 30 for 30 - Broke by ESPN. The second example is the social dynamics of lions.

Male lions, once they reach maturity, go out into the world and fend for themselves. They fight, form groups, and establish a social hierarchy. Male lions even form their own prides in order to take down game. The Alpha eats first, then the Betas, then the Omegas get the scraps if there are any left. Once a lion is mature and strong enough, he challenges another male lion for his pride. If he wins, he has a chance to carry on his legacy in the form other cubs. If he doesn't, he's more than likely going to be too wounded to fend for himself. Once he wins he has some cubs and eventually he loses his pride and life to another male challenger and dies alone.

Men also go out into the world to make something of themselves. They take up a career, a sport, or just become the next GQ model. They compete, form groups, and establish a social hierarchy. The Alphas get laid the most, followed by the Betas, and the Omegas get nothing. This can clearly be seen in the documentary 30 for 30 - Broke and in the documentary Shy Boys where women throw themselves at these men just for 18 years of child support all the while ignoring the Omegas. The man oftentimes impregnates several women, goes broke, and dies alone. Robin Williams is also a classic example. He married 3 wives, had 3 kids, and went broke. At the end of his life he was sleeping in a separate bedroom from his wife.

I don't have a moral to this story. I don't know if there is a lesson to be learned. I guess I just wanted to point out the realities and warn that if you're not careful, you could also end up like the ex-Alpha lion or Robin Williams. Dying of a mortal wound.
