If you read the gospels, Jesus often cracks jokes at people who shit test.

Haha.
I have heard this explained before as a class issue. Remember who Jesus hung around with and preached to. If someone from a higher class than yourself slapped you they would likely use their left hand, the hand they wiped their arse with. If you offered your other cheek, i.e. your left cheek, they would likely use their right hand. This apparently would signify you as their equal. I don't know why in this situation you wouldn't cop a backhand.
Not sure of the truth in this, but this is how it was explained.

Other way around.
They'd slap you on your right cheek with the back of their right hand. If you offer your left cheek they have to slap you with the palm of their right hand (as an equal) or with their left hand (which is shameful to the slapper) or back down.

It was a while ago that I heard the story. Thanks for clearing it up.

Given he is literally the personification of the ultimate alpha (God) it's no surprise he had such mastery over situations.
You'd be surprised at just how many shit tests the Pharisees gave him in order to trip him up (they were both jealous - beta - and worried that he would incite rebellion against the Romans and undermine their power and position as arbiters between the Jews and the Romans). He passed every one with a genius that every man should learn from. This is a man who literally never broke frame; from birth until death, resurrection and ascension he had one mission from which he never strayed.

The class perspective is conjecture. Jesus explained to his disciples that the reason why he was strait with them but spoke in metaphors to others was that it was easier for others to understand his teachings that way. One could on variable degrees deconstruct the stubborn beliefs of a man by metaphorical examples.
If you are pro marriage, I could ask you if a plane, based on divorce statistics, had a 50 percent chance of crashing, is it within your best interest take the chance? That would have had me thinking.
Jesus: To achieve the kingdom of God, you must be born again.
Man: Nonsense, how can an old man like myself re-enter my mothers womb and be born again.
The man rejects it as nonsense, but at the same time is begging for an explanation. His mind is open and much more receptive to Jesus opinion.
He was good.
I think the cheek thing is more of a form of maintaining frame around the oppressive Romans. But that's just speculation.

If a Roman slapped you in those times for whatever reason, it does not matter how alpha you are. If you retaliate it will be seen as defiance, you will likely be executed or castrated publicly as an example. Ill take one on both cheeks and live to alpha another day. Being alpha is more than aggression.

Jesus put the team on his back, led his men around the middle east like a boss and held frame 99% of the time. He showed massive amounts of self control and discipline in multiple situations. Jesus liked to speak in figurative language but was also a very straight forward guy.

I think Amused Mastery is a much better description of what he's up to.
Given that his dad can roast your ass or flood your whole country just becaus he's bored and all.

So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. (Matthew 21:12) Do not think that I came to bring peace on Earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man's enemies will be the members of his household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. (Matthew 10:34–39)

Capitalization and punctuation exist. Try it.

Yes he did... There is plenty of evidence that supports Jesus walking the earth. Was he the son of God? That's to be debated, but Jesus existed.
Plus, though I'm not 'religious' I find that the Bible has some very wise teachings and RP logic.

He really existed you quasi intellectual moron

Real solid argument there. An opinion followed by a personal insult is all it takes to convince anyone that your position is the correct one. Why isn't this post in the sidebar?
[–]1greatspin1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
great example of agree and amplify lol. previous post was done in a hurry. Anyway, what I mean to say is, other ancient texts document the existence of a man named Jesus Christ aside from the Bible. He is not a fictional character but an actual human being who lived, and if you believe as I do, still does in heaven with the Almighty God. There I elaborated my point into a more coherent argument.
