So i am an automotive enthusiast. I rent out a garage with some friends and we use it basically to work on our shit, make side money, and as a place to hang out and do whatever we want to do.

so anyway last weekend on sunday bluntday (a weekly tradition) we decided to all go to the hobby shop and watch some RC car races because a friend of ours is into the hobby. Well we all ended up walking out of the store with rc cars and my nature is always to fuck shit up and break stuff, so i thrashed mine up pretty quick and had to take it apart to fix it.

So i came to my shop last night. several of my friends were there playing with their RC cars in the parking lot. since mine was apart on the work bench i went back to my bench, put some music on, Rolled a joint and started working. A few people came back just to see what i was doing, but mostly everyone knew i was busy and left me alone

So a hour or 2 later, my shopmate's (well call him steve) friend shows up. (we'll call her nicole) nicole's been coming to smoke blunts with us like 3x a week for the past couple months. She came over to me, said hi, we talked for a couple minutes while i continued working, and eventually she moved on to other conversation.

the past couple nights she brought a friend who i had never met before. new girl and i spoke very briefly on monday night. i don't even remember what we talked about.. Last night she shows up and we spoke briefly again. Shes short (im 5'5 and shes shorter than me) had a nice shitter, but other than that was pretty plane-jane.. I didn't bother to ask her name.. Not that i wouldn't hit it, but my rc car was more important at the time, and i just didnt care enough to ask her.

She rolled a sub-par blunt it was really loose and skinny, But i didn't throw down so i didn't complain. We talked for a few minutes but i mostly stayed focused on my car. She made it a point to tell me she didn't understand what i was doing, and that "that just looks like jibberish to me" I don't really remember what i said but i kinda dismissed her and went back to working.

at some point they started blowing up baloons. I wasn't paying attention but i believe it was for nicole's boyfriend's birthday, maybe. they were blowing up mad baloons using the air compressor and apparantly new girl didn't like that i wasn't partaking so she starts walking toward me (my back toward her) and she said

her: "you're so quiet back there come here were blowing up baloons"

i ignored her for a few seconds, letting her walk closer to me before i turned to aknowledge her. I looked at her and she said

  • her: "come hang out come do something interesting"
  • Me: "This IS interesting"
  • her: "Well i don't understand it, so its not interesting TO ME"

I kinda just gave her a blank stare and didn't really say anything for a second, held eye contact, and she starts kinda taking a step backwards and said

  • her: "its just ignorance i guess.. Just ignorance.."

and i said "yeah it happens" and turned away and went back to what i was doing. She kind of had this like horrified look on her face, and awkwardly walked back to blowing up baloons and didn't really say anything to me the rest of the night. When the girls left, the new chick avoided eye contact and mouthed an almost silent "bye", and kind of awkwardly walked out.

so i guess the question is, did i do anything wrong? Keep in mind i smoked a joint, and a blunt. And i'm sure i took a bong rip here and there. basically i was ripped, and was fully immersed in what i was doing.. and very content about it.. i got the vibe she was trying to make me feel like i was isolating myself and being a herb by not paying attention to her. I didn't say anything in like an angry tone or anything, just tried to make it pretty clear that what i was doing was more important than whatever she had going on.

Normally i'm very social if i have nothing to do. (im more often than not the center of attention a lot of times, not because i beg for it, i guess i just have a certain way of speaking that people are attracted to) but i do pay rent to be able to do work in that place. I shouldn't have to stop what i'm doing and divert my attention to every 5-6 that walks through the door.
