There's this girl in my college social sciences class with whom I was conversing with and there's a project that we have the option of doing it solo or as a group. My initial instinct was to just say "Maybe." in hindsight, this might have been a better response. However, she's a good student and would pull her own weight during the assignment with the other girl probably doing the same.

Girl A: "We should totally do the project together (in a happy upbeat voice, showing obvious interest)" pretty sure this was a shit test

Me: Sure, but we should also ask (Girl B, who was absent today) to join the group too, she's really smart and a good student. (fully knowing Girl A prizes intelligence because she is a good student. An intelligent type who values her grades)

Girl B: "Yeahhhh. She's smarter than she gives herself credit for"

To which I replied with an indifferent "Yup." In hindsight, it probably would have been better to say something like "That didn't sound condescending at all, Lol. Not sure if I want someone like you in my group. And perhaps I would have added to that with "Maybe I'll just work on the project with (Girl B)" and cracked a smile)

After that we didn't speak for about 10 minutes or so because class had started, though I would make her laugh by making playful comments about what some of her responses to the questions that were asked in class. Of course there were moments where I had to concentrate on what the teacher was saying but it seemed to be going fine overall. Then I left class without really acknowledging here or saying bye.

Was this a shit test? Did I pass or did I fail? If I failed, why did I fail? I said this in an attempt to both accept her offer while not seeming like she was my only option.
