So here's my situation...
I've worked at this place for just under a year. I have good working relationships with everyone. I'm "work friends" with everyone, but I don't hang out with anyone outside work. Personally, I prefer to keep my work life and personal life separate to avoid drama.
So about 2 months ago the department gets re-organized so that my team shares an office with two other teams. I'm a Senior Engineer, and a supervisor. She's a manager (of one of the other teams in my office), technically a step above me, but we're more like peers.
We're the same age, 31, but I'm single. I make vague mentions of a girlfriend around the office to keep a lot of these women off my back, because a lot of them are divorced with kids, and those women tend to get really possessive and aggressive with single men.
She's married, 4 kids, super-beta husband. She has photos on her desk of this guy dressed up as cartoon characters playing with her kids. Seriously, and I'm totally the opposite of that. She's a type-A personality, clearly the adult in the relationship.
She and I have had a good working relationship, and then all of a sudden about 3 weeks ago she starts getting really flirty with me (out of nowhere from my POV), going out of her way to make excuses to talk to me, and dressing like she wants my attention.
So I'm trying my best to be business-like, and she keeps misinterpreting everything I do as an innuendo. At one point, I had to leave early to pick my car up from the shop, and she gets all giggly like I'm giving her some kind of signal (I wasn't, and I have the car receipt to prove it).
So last week, she asks me to her office for something about a project, gets flirty with me, and I go serious on her, and kindly tell her I gotta go. I think that's when she realized that the sexual intentions were a one-way street.
I can see her embarrassed that she went after me, and I basically turned her down. I did everything I could to avoid the situation. She's currently out of the office, avoiding me, I'm sure.
Don't get me wrong, she's a very attractive woman. Honestly, if she wasn't married with the kids (or a work colleague) she'd probably be a good match for me, she's intelligent, articulate, and actually good at her job.
I'm trying to de-escalate the tension. I would like to be friends with her and have a good working relationship. We work together often enough that just avoiding each other isn't going to work.
She seems mature enough to handle this without getting too emotional. What's a good way to help her save face here?
there doesn't seem to be anything here
