I'm 20M, my mom and dad split up when I was 2. Mom is a raging BP feminist, Dad is not as BP as Mom but far from RP (conservative Republican with a side of MRA). Dad has been my refuge from Mom's BP craziness, and I will forever be grateful to him for that, but after yesterday, I will never see him the same way again.

After they got divorced, Dad met and married my stepmom, who already had two kids: my stepbrother and stepsister. Stepbrother has become more and more of a deadbeat loser over the years--a few months ago, he admitted to lying about his college grades for years (said he was kicking ass but he was actually failing). I often wondered, why didn't Dad confront him about his loser behaviour? He was staying in Dad's house, after all, and living off of the food he worked to buy. But then I learned just yesterday that Stepbro had also confessed to stealing from Dad, Stepmom, my stepsister, and her husband...why? Doesn't matter. I asked Dad if he confronted him and his response was this: "No, because I didn't want to put any strain on the marriage." I shit you not.

Even the old beta BP-Disayle would have done a double take at that one. I would have said, "But shouldn't you communicate about it?" or some stupid BS. But RP-Disayle was flabbergasted. I'd already been stolen from by a fake friend before I swallowed the pill, so I knew just how much it sucked to have that happen. How could Dad have done this? Or more accurately, how could he not have done it? I'd always known he wasn't the Very Model of a Modern Manly Man, but I thought he had enough self-respect to at least give his thieving loser stepson a kick in ass and show him the door. What if he had stolen from me? Would Dad have "not wanted to put strain on the marriage" then too?! I prepared to give Dad a sound RP-style thrashing...but then I realized it wouldn't work. I'd already tried to introduce him to some RP concepts, but without any success. He's too far gone, and worse, he lost his job about 3 years ago--Stepmom supports him with her job, so he feels like he cannot risk the marriage, not even when her son is stealing from the family. Don't even get me started on my stepmom...saving that for another post.

I love my dad, but my respect for him took a big hit with this incident. And there's not a lot I can actually do to help him, which pisses me off the most. Note to self: Never do what Dad did in this situation.
