I agree that this is ahistorical bull. Back then, it was also common practice to want to save your marriage instead of divorcing left and right because you had a disagreement. It's ridiculous that this has become common practice today, and it's one of the reasons my boyfriend and I may completely stay away from marriage. The risks are too high on his end to want it, and if I ever wanted to leave him (which I doubt), I don't want to rip away everything he's earned.

Yes, cheers to the women who honestly don't want to work, but three cheers to those that do as well when they know what they're getting into and understand any consequences that may come from it. But yes, I agree it's pretty much impossible to have the perfect life of pleasing your husband, taking care of the kids, and having a successful career all at the same time.
