It would probably help. Unless you're world-famous for social media your time would be better spent in the gym. Who's going to get laid more? The really hot guy who looks like a male model or the average guy with a bunch of social media accounts? "OMG Stacey, did you see the size of his Facebook account? It must have 7TB of content!"

depends on if your social media will make you look like a pussy or not, if it doesnt, id say it doesnt matter even though some girls like the idea of a down to earth kind of guy, really just do what fits you
