I’m new to the sub so if this isn’t appropriate for here please let me know. This is just the closest I’ve come to finding women who think a bit like me. So I’m here seeking some red pill perspective on this whole “we hate the nuclear family” culture shift. I know that it stems from feminism, but I can’t generate a real discussion on the topic with anyone in my real life, and I haven’t been able to find sufficient information and opinions from anyone else on the topic. I know I’m not taking crazy pills here, because it’s becoming more common for people all over the country to wait later and later to have children and it’s almost like having children is seen as a burden that gets slightly lighter the more you’ve traveled or partied. As if you have to pack as much joy in your life as possible before you finally have kids and let them suck all that joy from you. That marriage is just a useless piece of paper or you’re not ready until you’ve already lived together for 10 years. That 25 is “just barely an adult”.
I’m an RN (I work 3 nights a month) and my husband manages his families iron and mental company. I’m a SAHM with a 3 year old and live in a very liberal college town in the Midwest (originally from the south where this shift is less prevalent but still definitely there) so that’s likely why this has been brought to my attention much more often than I’m used to. I have a variety of interests (swimming, shooting, sculpting, cooking) so I want to meet people based on these interests, but anytime I do, the second I mention I have a husband and child, they almost get condescending and it’s like I can feel them write me off as a potential friend. Those who had children themselves had infants and looked down on me for already having a toddler, or were divorced and bitter about it. They ask me questions like if I regret marrying my husband or what it’s like only sleeping with one man for almost 10 years. They always act surprised when they find out I’m a nurse. I had one person try to clarify “like a CNA?”. One woman didn’t bother to hide her surprised when she saw that I drive a 2018 Honda. A Honda. They seem to believe that everyone who gets married or has children in their 20’s has squandered their youth, and that you can’t possibly manage to establish a career and raise young children. It’s very obvious they also pity me for being a housewife and mother. They always say they can’t believe my husband would be okay with me “risking my career like that” or me “doing everything for him” (LOL). I try to steer away from the topic of my home life, but they don’t bother to ask me about anything else once the cats out of the bag. Not even the interests they actually know we share! It’s like they’ve already decided they aren’t interested in trying to be friends, so I just stop trying with them. It’s been nearly impossible to find likeminded women where I am.
I just want to understand why and how our culture has shifted so hard against anything possibly perceived as “traditional”? How is it that in what seems like maybe 2 decades, we have decided that anyone who wants a traditional lifestyle or is religious or conservative in any way (I consider myself moderate anyways) they must be poor, dumb and oppressed? I just don’t understand what we as a society get out of destroying the nuclear family and treating it like a plague? How is it at all proven to be beneficial in the long term? Why is wanting to dedicate yourself to your spouse and child seen as a bad thing? I don’t understand why people need to aspire for a career with a grad degree, international travels and other completely subjective and arbitrary milestones to be considered a well rounded or fun person. It’s just so much more isolating. It’s not like I think that everyone needs to have children but as a society we have abandoned the “it takes a village” attitude. Do any of you red pill ladies have any good articles or reading on the subject? Thought and opinions of your own?
