I just noticed that pretty much every girl I know had a phase when she got with a guy and dropped out of normal dynamics/became friendshiply useless. Then they either broke up, or stayed together long enough that she started getting a life again, or she stayed forever lost. Even the best girls I know had that happen to them, even I was that person once although I always made a conscious effort never to let that happen to me (I like to excuse my case with the fact that I was also traveling and experiencing the typical 20somehing existential depression, but maybe it wasn't that complicated). I'm not blaming the guys (at least not in all the cases) or saying there was anything particularly wrong with the relationship, just that I always felt that when a friend falls in love she is lost to me for some time, and it used to really irritate me but I no longer care because I realized with time we all go through things and good friends always reconnect.
I'm wondering how other people see their friends getting in serious relationships with someone, do you feel a sense of loss? What is your gender, and also were/are you that friend at times?
Also, do you expect your friends not to normally bring their partners with them when they're hanging out with you/your group? Do you expect your friends to hang out with your partner when they want to see you? Do you usually like these people?
