Basically it depends on the state, so he should get a lawyer now.

He should get a DNA test before signing anything. If he has signed, he has a limited window to contest it.

The basic pattern is this: all she has to do is name him as the father, and the state will come after him for support on behalf of the mother. If he beats the rap, and he may have to pay support while fighting it, they will go back to her and ask for another name. Her admission that he isn't the daddy is also not admissible as proof he isn't the daddy.

Miss a payment in any of this, and he's pretty well stuck with the kid until it's 18.

Speak with an attorney. Every state has it's own paternity/marriage/support laws though there are a few federal funding programs which require compliance for a state to partake in.

Generally speaking for most jurisdictions: a child conceived in wedlock is presumed to the be natural child of the husband. Almost every state will allow an initial time period in which to contest paternity. For some states that's as little as 2 months. Some states allow up to 2 years after cause to suspect.

Speak to a local family law attorney and take action now.
