Help Not Wanted

I've gotten involved in altercations twice.

First time; HUGE guy hitting a woman. He saw me looking, I came over. He stopped and walked away. I asked the woman if she needed help? No. Police? No. Fine, I walked away.

I was 6', 185. The other guy was much bigger than me.

Second time, on the way to a diner, a woman was involved in an altercation with her boyfriend. I passed her to go inside and she came in and announced he was hitting her and asked everyone to help her. Her boyfriend was attacking her. She was overly dramatic and in histrionics. It looked like everyone was skeptical but I had just arrived so I went over to see if she needed help. As I walked to the door I could see out the windows at the couple. The boyfriend was turned away from her talking on the phone. She was SCREAMING at him while he had a finger in his ear. While he ignored her she literally threw herself at him then would tell him to stop attacking her. I stood and watched, got pissed off and sat down. If anything I would help the guy. As I watched he got in his car and locked the door. She continued screaming.

As this happened two cops came in to get food. They weren't called. She came in and told them the story, they shook their heads, saw what was going down and intervened. They had to talk this woman down from the ledge of crazy.

I will never intervene again. The first time the woman didn't even express any thanks, the second time she was violent and lying.

Perhaps this is my beta side coming out, please critique what I am about to say, HARD.

His problem is that he intervened and attempted to protect a woman, on the basis of her being a woman, that is not his.

I believe in protecting those that are weaker than me in light of excessive physical force, this includes both men and women.

I walk up, and ask if the party requires assistance. In a situation like the above, the force was not "excessive", but even if it was she would have said no, and this would have all been avoided.

If the individual in question does say yes, usually your presence, dominance and her giving you the "green light" is enough to give the attack pause, in which case you simply withdraw the victim from the scene.

If it was a case where she was getting punched repeatedly, I would proceed with the above.

I'm even conflicted as I write this. A part of me wants to say 'They are not a part of the pack, so they do not matter.'

Is this just my indoctrination? Maybe it's because I'm a 6 foot 230 pound, muscular guy, and am confident I can dispatch most assailants.

Lets see how that white knight attempt fared:

Gets knife slashed in the face.

Gets yelled at by the female he tried to defend.

Female runs back to guy who just slapped the shit out her as you lay there holding your permanently scarred face as they both get away.

Damn. Nature serves out cruel lessons sometimes. You know he felt stupid as fuck.

Dont ever protect a woman who doesn't belong to you. 10 times out 10 they are with a guy who treats them like shit because they choose to be. You can't help. Ever.
