Hey guys.
Currently living in eastern Europe where people just arent the same as in the West.
I speak the language at an intermediate level but group conversations for me are generally too fast/confusing.
I have a lot of friends here but I'm starting to think some are pushing me around. I'm always positive and try to bring a good vibe, but I'm started to feel a little disrespected by some people.
For example, earlier today I did a little push-pull with a girl that doesn't speak English very well. I was joking around about her not speaking English (similar to my ex), when a friend of mine started telling me to stop being disrespectful. She was laughing while I'm always paying attention to the response to calibrate accordingly. Next thing I know, these two "friends" who I've hung out with a few times were getting defensive and telling me not to be an asshole, despite the fact that the energy was all good.
I let it pass, even though I knew I was right just to avoid stirring things up more.
Later on I was speaking to another chick and the same thing happened again. Me and the girl were both laughing and having fun, yet these guys tell me to tone it back because I'm being "too rude". Now I'm starting to get pissed off because it seems like it's coming from their own insecurity, by the fact me and the girl are having a good time.
I pretty much get shut out and then the conversation forcefully turns back into the native language, so I can't really partake. One of the guys did it three fucking times. In fact he told me not to flirt with another girl because he likes her.
I bite the bullet out of kindness but I'm really starting to get pissed off because my way of flirting is cheeky and these guys are getting mad over it.
How do I politely tell these guys to fuck off? If I made the girls uncomfortable I'd understand, but I'm not and it seems they're just getting butthurt whenever I'm having a good convo with a girl
Basically how do I control the situation? I'm not going to stop being me but they're starting to take the piss. Of course I'm not going to hang around with them any more but some of them will occasionally join the other group I'll be with. It's pissing off because they're essentially trying to stop me from being me. I don't want to break frame but fucking hell, the "I know best" ego in this country is really pissing me off.
How would you guys handle the situation
