Article is behind a subscription/paywall but it appears it’s from 1987 in any event.

Our public school system itself doesn’t pressure kids to date. And it’s weird you have some issue with it being integrated and are comparing it to prisons. There are probably many historical reasons for sex segregation in prisons including wanting to prevent violence and pregnancy. Maybe some sort of beliefs about how the different genders would be successfully rehabilitated or something.
