Interesting article, however I disagree with her on this front:

History shows us that whenever our species has ever attempted to take control of biology and bend it out of shape to ideological goals, human tragedy always follows. It’s a lesson we still don’t seem to have learned. Because in spite of overwhelming evidence, many people, and especially orthodox feminists, still hold fast to the idea of an endlessly flexible human nature, and indeed, human nature is flexible, but a blank slate it is not. Neither is it a crude caricature of immutable deterministic drives and instincts as often painted within the orthodox feminist doctrine of biological determinism. Human nature is very much mutable, but not infinitely or arbitrarily so, and here lies the nub.

While trying to force people to abandon their human natures against their will is likely to result in disaster, I believe that actively striving to conquer and indeed abandon the more animalistic, primal aspects of one's OWN nature is a noble goal. I believe it is the next step to humanity advancing as a species, but to achieve it a majority of humans must DESIRE such a thing. Unfortunately, following one's instincts provides an easy burst of happiness, so it will be difficult to convince humanity at large to abandon their subconscious reward system...

It's not desiring such a thing.

Desire is instinct so it will never help you.

If you want to change society the only solution is FORCE.

Christianity outright banned cousin marriage that broke our natural tendency towards tribalism and facilitated the creation of modern society.

What is this?

[–]adrixshadowIndigo Pill(aka dark and evil occult pill)0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It does not matter the reason, just what the result was.

I'm sure Christianity aren't a fan of that whole science and atheism thing.

Desire is instinct so it will never help you.

Desire is not instinct, at least not with the way that user used the word. people can want something that goes against their instincts. I want a more peaceful world, but you could argue that humans have an instinct to be violent in some sotuations. I can overcome that instint by teaching myself non-violence. Logical over instinct.

If you want to change society the only solution is FORCE.

Gandhi and MLK called, they would like to politely disagree.

You don't have to take force as violence.

Think of it in terms of laws, things you cannot do.

If laws weren't enforced we wouldn't have society as it is.

[–]CFRProflcopter( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What's your point then?

[–]adrixshadowIndigo Pill(aka dark and evil occult pill)0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The point is that wishy washy stuff isn't going to work.

if you want to chance nature you must compel them for they will not do them themselves.

[–]Icebluedial-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I believe that actively striving to conquer and indeed abandon the more animalistic, primal aspects of one's OWN nature is a noble goal.

Why?

I believe it is the next step to humanity advancing as a species

Why?

so it will be difficult to convince humanity at large to abandon their subconscious reward system

How do you plan on abandoning your own subconscious reward system....?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

You can train yourself out of a lot of subconscious "hindbrain" reactions. Hell, there's a guy who trained himself not to get cold via meditation.

And it's a noble goal because society evolves faster than our bodies/minds do. A lot of our evolved behaviors are outdated and we'd be better off without them. In fact, TRP works because our brains (mens and womens) are for the most part still stuck in the stone-age. For example, women are able to earn a living in modern-day society just as well as men are now that strength isn't the main factor, but they're still bound to ye olde hypergamy.

[–]Icebluedial0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm struggling to see how that's overcoming your neurobiology, it's just trying to adjust it to something else. If you succeed you've just altered your reward system, not abandoned or overcome it.

I wouldn't say that's noble either but I understand where you are coming from.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I suppose "noble" is a subjective value judgement. I'm pretty big into transhumanism overall which would involve abandoning biology - but that's a horse of a different color...

[–]Icebluedial0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Damn subjectivity ruining discussions as always.

Isn't transhumanism again altering biology with technology, not abandoning it?

Do you think transhumanism will cause a split in the human race, of elites and inferiors?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Altering is definitely part of it, but I think there will be some "abandonment" of certain baser instincts depending on how far you're willing to go (might not need to eat, sleep, etc anymore even).

Yes I think there absolutely will be a split between people who want to remain all-natural and people who want to "upgrade".

[–]Icebluedial0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds good to me.

I assumed everyone would want to upgrade, it would be so advantageous and Id imagine as we continue to make progress in medicine, the line between natural and non-natural will blur - it won't really be a moral issue.

I meant a more of a have, have nots situation. Those that can afford to be early adopters will have a potentially ridiculous and exponentially increasing advantage over the rest of humanity.
