Do you have that friend that just smiles all the time at everything and everyone? Is he a pushover? Do you respect him?

In chimps, smiling is a sign of submissiveness, it's asking for acceptance, for people to like you and accept you. It's not a dominant trait. Some studies suggest that women find smiling men less attractive, others the opposite but you need to consider that there's 2 types of attraction: that guy is friendly, he seems like someone I could talk to; or that guy is hot, I wanna bone him. Don't be the harmless friendly guy, be the dominant male that gets what he wants, isn't afraid of confrontation (remember, smiling is avoiding confrontation and playing it safe).

MASTER THE SMIRK; Look at the great suave and male sex symbols of old: Harrison Ford; Marlon Brando; Sean Connery. They don't smile a lot, they smirk when they have to. What impression do these people give you? Suave, chill, reliable, manly, and leader-like.

Finally, I couldn't help but notice in my life that those who smile most are usually at the bottom of the social hierarchy, they are submissive, agreeable and conflict-adverse. Look at AMOGs, or strong charismatic leaders, they do not smile a lot. I also feel like I don't respect those who smile too much. Now this is a subjective assessment and I'm just kinda brainstorming here, I wanna hear your thoughts and experiences.
