It attracts younger men who work hard in the toguhest conditions: 18 hour work days, on a boat getting sea sick, freezing cold with waves slamming the boat. It has the highest death rate proportionally as a job, even more than military jobs. Society seems to glorify this is an alpha career via The Deadliest Catch.

Just wondering if anyone has actually done a season and if its changed them into a more mentally tough man? I landed a spot on a crab boat in Alaska in Feb, so im just waiting for that day. I joined for the pay/experience/adventure but im curious about the mental toughness i will develop afterwards as well.
