You are going to look like a clown because you are learning a new skill. You have to have enough mental fortitude to endure looking like a clown, that's the biggest thing. A lot of guys quit because they don't get success right away. Spoiler, if you aren't used to talking to people, you won't have success right away.

Hell, even guys who are out in the battle fail more than they succeed. It's like hitting in baseball. But as it is a skill, pay attention to what works and doesn't work. There are guys in baseball who can hit a particular pitch consistently. This is because they have worked on hitting that pitch. They observe and calibrate. You should make sure to do the same when talking to people. Note what works, what doesn't work.

Other than that, get in as many 'reps' as you can talking to people. Men, women, talk to everyone. In real life women are with men a lot, you have to be able to talk to the group.

It's hard if you don't routinely have to talk to strangers. Since you'll feel incredibly nervous the first time. Meaning you'll do things like jump at the opportunity to fill in every void of conversation, you might just not know what to say next, or just a combination of things.

Approaches get better when you start giving less of a fuck, because that anxiety comes from fearing a negative outcome. Since you would have no problem approaching if you got laid every time. Now there are plenty of strategic tips people can give you regarding what to say but you need to understand where these emotions are coming from so that you fix the underlying problem
