I ask men these questions all of the time to teach them the difference between true remorse, and mere regret at getting caught:

Did she cry when she lied to you? Did she cry when she left you to go screw the new guy? Did she cry when she sucked his duck? Did she cry when he fucked her like a cheap whore?

I realised this, in situation unrelated to cheating: when you have the power not to say sorry, but say it anyway then you know it's the true regret. When you start to say sorry only when it only thing left to save your ass is safe to assume the apology to be false.
