Anyone can add to the Wikipedia. There is no way to know the gender, age or social standing of the contributor. Therefore, wikipedia (in its core) is one of the most gender neutral and socially unbiased knowledge shared platform. Pure meritocracy, as all of the academics should be.

If the women don't edit Wikipedia as much, that is fine. It doesn't matter, since knowledge has no gender - what only matters it its advancement. Scientific method in its proper form doesn't discriminate based on sex, but neither does it play favouritism.

That little initiative of theirs is pure PR.

It's probably either the glass floor or the patriarchy that hold women back. It'd be interesting to see what areas men vs women contribute to.
