My colleagues and I were discussing the job referral process and how people can sometimes reach out randomly and directly with, “Hey, can I get a referral?” I understand how someone can say no under normal circumstances.

One of them, who is a white female, commented on her personal experience and how she wasn’t up for giving a referral. But she directed a loud whisper to someone else in our group “and he’s a white male. He doesn’t need any help” within earshot.

I was stunned. My team is comprised mostly of women and it messed up my day that this opinion was shared in an open office in broad daylight.

I don’t like that I left her racist/sexist remark unchecked. It’s not cool. Wondering if I should report the incident, but I feel that this will cause tension and issues in the office. Especially because standing up for white men is not socially accepted

Edit: thanks for your advice, gents
