Have any of you guys lived in your cars?

I’ve done it for years and travel all over for part of the year. I often loop from the south east to the north west, then back across the northern part. Stopping along the way.

If you’re going to do it because you want to, not because you have to because you have no options.

I use a lot of truck stop shower facilities and occasionally at a gym if I am in the middle of a curry, like Manhattan or something where that’s not feasible.

It can be fun, and if you’re not doing the tourist thing you can save a lot of money and see a lot.

I would say though, that if you’re doing it for the experience, you probably want to avoid other van dwellers, as most are homeless bums and are forced to do that, with a lot of drug issues and warrants and you’ll be treated accordingly.

Also, I’ve had zero problems because I operate it stealth mode to not attract attention. Most van dwellers look like homeless hippie bums, so you want to avoid that.

Lived in my model 3 for a few months. Climate control is very nice.

Also lived in a sleep bag on the streets. Very unpleasant.

Don’t make life in a car or on the streets and option for yourself.

I plan on doing it in a year or 2. Gonna save up 20k and first stop is Colorado for a couple months working fast food and flipping, then head off after that. Eventually I want to try and get something going with music maybe make something off that. At least try anyway. Hopefully by the time I hit 100k in the bank maybe move back to Colorado permanently. Seems sweet and you can save a shit ton of money working bull shit jobs. Plus the adventure aspect. Seems sweet to me.

Chicago sounds cold for winter van living unless you do some serious insulation and upgrades.

I lived out of a Suzuki Samurai for a month when I moved to Colorado in 1999. It was Autumn so I didn’t freeze at night. I’m 6 foot tall imagine how small a Suzuki Samurai hardtop is, pure hell
