Long time lurker here. I had to share this with some of you, as I think it highlights the state of our society, not just the state of women. I was at a friendly gathering Sunday night. My friend cooked dinner for our group of friends (two girls, four guys). At some point, the conversation shifted to relationships and dating and, long story short, one of the girls, let’s call her Alice, says this:
”A woman should be able to get shitfaced drunk and not have to worry about getting raped walking home.”
It was one of the stupidest things I’d heard anyone say, so I replied:
”By that metric I should be able to walk down the street of any ghetto in any city with wads of cash sticking out of my pockets and not get mugged, but that’s not how the world works.”
On the way home I realized that we’ve created, not one generation, but multiple generations of people who think they deserve to live in a world where there are no consequences. Even if most people don’t vocalize this belief, I think they internalize it. These fools actually think human beings can be perfected in such a way that accountability and responsibility become obsolete. Now, I’m not a nihilist. I don’t think all is lost. We should still pursue virtue and excellence even knowing the perfect state will never be reached because the alternative is equivalent to hell on earth, but this belief that the perfect state includes freeing ourselves from consequence...
God help us all.
