It doesn't say anywhere that the wife doesn't work. There is no mention of gender anywhere in the post dude. This is an average expense report for all people's living in those city. Male and female. And if you actually think you are pocketing even close to 100% of the salary regardless of marital status you are very dumb. There's a thing called taxes that everyone pays. Taxes that are extremely high in places like San Francisco and New York. So if you are making 100k a year you'd be lucky to bring home 70k. All this table is showing is that single people pay around 1k in expenses, college students pay around 700$ and married pay around 4k. Obviously married people with kids will pay more because 4 people cost more than 1. If OP wanted to show a good example of why not to get married he should show a report of single never married vs single divorced. Because that number would be more convincing. Expenses would then have to cover alimony, child support, etc. I bet it would be even higher than the married with kids figure. Because expenses magically rise from marriage to divorce. Divorced women think they need more to "support" themselves when they are "divorced" verses when they are married.
