Take the job at Comcast.

Learn coding on the side, even if it takes a little longer this way, until you're able to land a job that can at least semi sustain you.

Just skip on other stuff for some time, Netflix, going out, video games, whatever else you do to relax. You can get back to those things, if you want, once you've made the transition.

If it interests you, you always have time to study it, and you'll grasp it much faster because you care about it.

You have three days off, surely one of them can be a study time.

Congrats on your savings, you can learn everything you want to learn for free btw, all of it is self-teachable and you won't have to waste your money.

Hey man, I am a dev in a DevOps role and can help point you along the way. First, studying just languages will not make you a developer. You will be a code monkey and will burn yourself out making 40-60k at best.

You need to study computer science so you can code the correct way. Programming languages are just tools, like a wrench, hammer, screw driver and so on. Just because you know how to use a hammer doesn't mean you are a carpenter.

Just like tools, some languages are better at a job than others. For instance, you could nail in a screw but that is not what a screw is used for.....it could break in half, break the wood...or if it does work you cannot unscrew it.

Start with this class, it's free unless you want a certificate from Harvard:

Bonus tip: learn git after CS50x, join an open source python project after the MIT class and help squash bugs. Most programmers are friendly and helpful to those who truly want to learn. Squashing bugs is not a glorious job BUT it gives you experience, keeps you programming and learning new things. It also looks good on a resume when you have worked on 5+ open source projects.

When you do put your resume out there ALWAYS include a link to your GitHub account. However, if you do take the Comcast job see if you can hang out with the dev's there. Get to know them, talk about what you are doing in your free time (programming, squashing bugs, etc.). This way, when a job opens on their team: A. They already know you and have chemistry with you, B. They know you are hungry to learn.

(This is all based on my experience: Self-taught comp sci, 18+ years in I.T., worked for a company that every i.t. person dreams of when growing up).

Can you study part-time? See if you can re-arrange your life, and take on both.

Take the job at comcast because

You open up a ladder you can climb. You can bet they have need for IT fellas with the skills you're going for. And if not, you'll still be able to study in the field on your off days for at least an hour or two.
It is much more stable than grubhub. I recommend people stay out of the gig economy like uber, grubhub etc unless its just a side gig for a little extra money.

Bro I feel like you are doing the exact thing I did.

I worked for a Comcast contractor, we basically did the same thing as Comcast employees installing TV, Internet, and phone but I was working 6 days a week. All during that time I was studying coding when I could.

Totally take that Comcast job you will make enough to cover your bills and working the 4 days at 10-12 hours a day and it will leave you with your 2-3 day weekend to study.

I'm not going to kid you it was hard, but it's totally worth it. I have a developer job right now and I have my own SAAS startup that I created. By the end of this year it will be making enough for me to quit my job and code for it full time.
