This doesn't apply 100% of the time, but whenever it applies, it's typically a woman doing it:

  • Leaves an unnecessarily large amount of space - sometimes several feet - on the conveyor belt to the wares of the person in front of her, often restricting people behind her from putting on their wares.

  • When she pays in cash, she typically won't start counting her money until the cashier has scanned all the items and then often struggles excessively long to find the right amount.

  • Doesn't plan ahead on how to carry away her wares after paying, will often hold up the next customer for 10 seconds to half a minute in extreme cases struggling to pick up all her stuff and put it somewhere. Even if she only has a handful of items. This is because she won't even start packing her items until after they are all scanned and paid for!

And this applies to all of the above points: Seems 100% oblivious, indifferent and unashamed about what she is doing. On rare occasions she will be apologetic, but usually in a cheeky way, as if it was amusing and she had every right to do so.

And this seems to be true no matter the age. You would think that someone who looks 70 years old has a bit of experience doing things smartly, but nope, if anything it grows a bit worse with the older ladies.

I've only been living alone for 5 years, but that's longer than it took me to figure out this basic stuff; I put my wares in a bag while they are being scanned and after I've paid, I'm ready to go and make space for the next customer.

This is even true if I buy 2 big bags full of stuff because I actually try to not waste any time. It's really not that hard to figure this out and unless it's an obviously inexperienced child, it drives me up the wall when people can't figure out this basic stuff.

To me this is basic courtesy and common sense, yet so many adult or even senior women simply don't seem to care.

Anyone else observing this?

Again, it's not always women doing this, but I'd say in 80-90% of cases it is.
