You should learn the lesson instead of trying to be in the same position as the writer of that story.

This is an excellent point for young guys here who are both naturally competitive and insecure about their value.

Also remember this is the internet: it's quite likely you're reading artistic works of fiction and falsehood anyway.

But if those works have a POINT that adds to your knowledge, perspective, etc, then your time reading wasn't wasted.

I would also add, don't listen to women when they compare you to another man, its pure manipulation.

It is a core tenet of happiness and confidence to not compare yourself to other people.

There are a billion moving parts and "make-or-break" moments in each individuals life, male or female, and far too many variables to ever make this worthwhile.

My friends whole life changed when his Grandmother died and she left him a few grand that he bought a nice car with (v young at the time) ...loads of people we worked with got jealous...and I'm like "huh?"

Don't judge them on their trappings of success, observe how they apply effort into achieving what they desire.
