I don't want to get too much into the backstory because it may out me, but I was seeing a girl, broke it off with her, but we kept having sex.
Recently I received an email in which she said that she wasn't in the right state of mind to consent when we had sex a few months ago. Not because of alcohol, but because of her emotional state at the time.
My question is, when you're faced with essentially a subtle rape claim, what do you believe is the best response? My inclination is to completely avoid her and never talk to her, but I'm worried about the reputational fall-out if she decides to tell people she was emotionally abused by me, or throws the "rape" bomb. Is this just the cost I'm going to have to face because rape allegations, even when completely unsubstantiated and ridiculous on their face, are taken at face value?
Or is there another way I can react? How would you react?
Edit: Consensus seems to be, and I agree, that I should not communicate ever with her again. I have an additional question which I also posted as a comment: if I happen to run into the same social events with her, should I just avoid her or ditch the event?
