Its a matter of survival but its a very odd conundrum. They dream of success and money and talk a lot about it and think that therefore, they must make every moment of their time worth it. Why? Because they saw a youtube video talk about success and think that they know what it takes to succeed without ever having done anything in their life.

You know that guy in high school who keeps talking about how successful he will be but never does shit but mooches off his parent's money? Replace high school guy with woman and parent with boyfriend.

They're also incredibly misguided. They think working hard means finessing guys to give them their money and they justify it with how broke they are. They apply that ethic to their personal lives and not professional ones, not knowing or caring how it makes guys feel or think of them. Men are disposable to them because a lot of guys are propositioning them. Therefore, girls feel that they can and should choose men who are worthy and can satisfy her immediate interest. In this case, it is the man who showers her with money.

Now, what does she do with that money? Spend it the instant it comes in. She will justify it as her way of reaching "success" by quoting variations of "fake it till you make it." This means buying designer clothes and lots of makeup and jewelry so that they can "feel rich" and therefore "will become rich." Its actually a super stilted belief that rests on little more than hand waving, astrology/fate, and some perverted form of protestant work ethic whereby she has to manipulate other people to get what she wants. There is no long term investment in one's self.

In it rawest form, its buying a feeling. She is buying the feeling of feeling successful. And she's using human beings and romance to fund her shopping spree.
